Barnes & Noble Customers Give the Gift of Reading to Children in Need

Through Annual Holiday Book Drive

North Haven Barnes & Noble Chooses Kacey’s Korner As Local Non-Profit Recipient

North Haven CT – October 11, 2012– Barnes & Noble stores across the country invite customers to give the gift of reading to children in need during its annual Holiday Book Drive, taking place from November 1, 2012 to January 1, 2013.  The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive provides an opportunity for customers to donate books through locally designated non-profit organizations.

Holiday Book Drive recipients throughout the country include schools, libraries, literacy organizations, family social service agencies and homeless centers.  This year, the North Haven Barnes & Noble, located at 470 Universal Drive will be collecting books for Kacey’s Korner.

The Kacey Rose Foundation established Kacey’s Korner”, a library of children’s books that is housed in the pediatric clinic of the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.  They have also established “Kacey’s Kart” a mobile library located in the inpatient unit at Yale-New Haven and Yale-New Haven Pediatric Oncology satellite office in Guilford. These libraries offer children much more than a wide variety of tales; it will provide a source of distraction during physically and emotionally stressful experiences. A Kick-Off Party is scheduled for Saturday November 3, 2012 at 1:00 pm. The party will include a presentation from local best selling author Jason Marchi and Illustrator Jesse Bonelli , THE LEGEND OF HOBBOMOCK: THE SLEEPING GIANT. This picture storybook is for ages 6-10 and for older readers who are familiar with Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, Connecticut.

“The Holiday Book Drive is one of our most popular community partnerships,” says Sarah DiFrancesco, director of community relations for Barnes & Noble.  “Our booksellers and customers get to share the pure joy of giving a book to a child in need.  And because each Barnes & Noble store chooses its local non-profit beneficiary, the donations are very personal.”
